Nice review, Principle Centered Leadership sounds like a good book to read.
Covey has a lot of great points, a few of the characteristic from chapter one I am currently focusing on a in my own life. Leading a balanced life is very important. Sometimes we lean toward certain traits too much. Like too much work or too much leisure. There was a time that I was a workaholic and I missed out on so much in life. I still find myself having to re-break that habit.
Seeing life as an adventure causes you to come out of your shell or comfort zone to experience new things, people and places in life. This is education in itself and enriches your life.
Exercise for self-renewal is something we must do to stay healthy but sometimes is the most difficult to do as often as we should.
Covey presents some interesting points on power. When people are interested and self motivated for a specific purpose the power to lead comes from them and it does not take a strong arm to fulfill that purpose.
Chapter 10: Clearing Communication Lines. Covey has strong argument in this concept. Perception problems are the root of communication problems. I find it happening more the older I get. Our perception of a situation, statement or action is not the same as those we may be trying to communicate with. I will try these principles to clear communication lines with others and see if they work.
Thanks for the great post. I agree, Exercise for self-renewal especially as it pertains to physical exercise is not an area I have been very successful in...obviously it is beneficial, but I just don't do it and will have to take some time to "dig deep" to figure out what is holding me back.
Your comment regarding Clearing Communication Lines, you made the point that as you get older, communication problems sometimes occur and as we have discussed in Leadership, Inter-Generational communication can be difficult because each person's experiences and contexts are so different. That is something that people may not always be aware of so it makes resolution more difficult...don't you think? As we become aware of it, maybe we are less threatened by the other person's viewpoint or belief.
It is a good book...it has been out for years so it is probably easy to get a copy either at the library or bookstore....hope you get time to read it.
